DALLAS – During a press conference to share details about officers who were ambushed by a gunman in Dallas, Police Chief David Brown challenged citizens who were frustrated with their strained relationships with police to join the department and become part of the solution.
According to recent data shared on the department’s Facebook page report, Dallas citizens are apparently taking Brown up on his offer.
Since the shooting on July 7 that captured the attention of the nation, the Dallas Police Department reports that it has received approximately 40 applications a day, which more than triples the number of applications it received previously.
In a fit of frustration seeking to help the community find a solution to the problem that resulted in five officers being killed and nine more being injured, Brown said at a press conference, “We’re hiring! Get off that protest line and put an application in. We’ll put you in your neighborhood and help you resolve some of those problems.”
