LOUISVILLE, KY – A.D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home conducts approximately 470 funeral services every year.
Few would argue that the most notable funeral service the century-old, Louisville-based business has facilitated was for legendary boxer and humanitarian, Muhammad Ali.
Nearly eight years ago, Ali and his wife, Lonnie, called Woodford Porter to begin planning how his family-owned funeral business would facilitate services for the champ to ensure nothing would be left to chance on the day the world ultimately said goodbye to the man who once was the most recognized person in the world.
On June 10, the final services for Ali were so well-executed that ESPN began producing a feature segment for its E:60 broadcast to provide a unique behind-the-scenes look at how Porter and his son Hamilton managed the logistics, crowds, celebrities and emotions for arguably the most observed memorial service in modern history.
“It was the most amazing thing I’ve seen in my life,” said Woodford Porter.
